Description
Start painting from photos is what it says on the tin! This beginner-friendly 4-week course aims to take you from first principals to finished masterpiece. Bring your own photo and learn how to transform it into a beautiful painting from start to finish. This is a project-based course where we will be working on the same piece week-by-week, to make something really special.
You will learn a little bit about photography and how to take your own reference pictures, as well as other resources. Learn to look critically and enhance what you see with colour and contrast. The aim is to learn how to create a realistic painting but not to turn you into a human photocopier! You will translate what you see through the filter of your own unique perspective, emotions and experiences to make something original.
Using the grid method you will learn how to make an accurate drawing with correct proportions. We will be working at a larger size for greater detail (A3). I will show you have to create tonal studies to understand and enhance contrast. We will practise blacking in, choosing a focus, and creating the illusion of detail.
The main mediums for this course will be: Acrylics and coloured pencils. Acrylics are great for creating broad areas of colour and glazings, whilst coloured pencils are excellent for rending fine details.
